Why Regluing Is A Bad Idea
I'm not against regluing. Pimorac, Persson or Ma Lin SHOULD reglue by all means. I'm against players who reglue because they think 'it's cool' or because 'other players do it'. A lot of players shouldn't reglue as they don't have a solid enough game, and regluing will make his game only worse, and what's more, it will slow down his improvement rate.
Here there are some things to be taken in consideration before moving to regluing practices. Some are rather cocky, other make much sense, but I've provided all:
1 - You lose tons of control. To handle a reglued racket you need touch. Regluing should be done by advanced players only, that already have a solid game.
2 - You are much more affected by incoming spin: If you misread a serve, you'll pop it up, or sunk into the net.
3 - Regluing MIGHT not suit your style: If you chop or push 80% and loop 20%, regluing could not be a wise option.
4 - It cuts down your practice time: Regluing properly, removing old glue from your blade, applying two coats and letting them dry, and attaching the rubber to the blade, and then repeating the process for your other rubber, can easily take 10 minutes. If your practice sessions last for 90 minutes, that's more than 10% of your practice time.
5 - You'll develop certain strokes much slower when regluing. All your short play is gone, and you'll have to rebuild it. What about serving short? Can you push dead / spiny and short / long?
6 - Glues are toxic. Its can says it. And they stink (well some not stink, but all I'm aware of are toxic).
7 - Glues make a rubber (its sponge) to wear out fastly. Also, it changes the sponge properties as the glue is being absorbed by it after every time you reglue. You'll have to replace them much faster than if not regluing.
8 - You have to reglue always before playing, as your racket playing characteristics have great variation with time as glue is loosing its effect on the sponge. You have to use always the same technique when regluing, as it has a lot of influence in the performance of your racket.
9 - You need some extra room in your sports bag, to carry a glue can, scissors, various flavors of rubbers, and some regluer stuff.
10 - It gives you ANOTHER sorry excuse for losing when you have not reglued. Or you reglued poorly. Or you used a glue other than yours. Or you used too much glue. Or 'the humidity on the area make your glue don't work properly'. Or ...
